Newbyres Castle is a 16th Century tower house, a scheduled monument situated within the grounds of the Newbyres Castle Community Garden in Gorebridge, Midlothian. The site has now become overgrown and vegetation is beginning to threaten the fabric of the monument, with this vegetation requiring clearance prior to any further works. Gorebridge Community Development Trust (GCDT) in conjunction with Archaeology Scotland's Adopt a monument scheme are going to clear the vegetation with a view to improving the condition of the monument and provide better access for the community.
Which is where we come in! ArchSoc will be going along to help out with this project and give our members some hands on practical archaeology experience. We are looking for as many people as possible to come along and get stuck in. Training will be given prior to work commencing. The group will be leaving Edinburgh around 9am and most likely heading to the nearest pub when work is done for some liquid warmth.
If you are interested in getting your hands dirty and helping out with a great project please contact ArchSoc in the first instance at firstname.lastname@example.org
We look forward to seeing some of you there!
This event is open to current members of ArchSoc. If you are not a current member of the society don't worry, you can join us for only £4 a year by going here:
