What does “coming out” mean to you? What factors influence our “coming out” process as queer and trans people with multiple intersectional identities?
We are happy to welcome Dinaly Tran to facilitate this conversation on the complexities of coming out and we will also be watching their film “at home”. Dinaly is a graduate from UTSG and is working towards being a filmmaker. "at home" is their first short film, made through Inside Out's New Visions program for the 26th Annual Toronto LGBT Film Festival. In it they explore what it means to identify as queer when you are an immigrant or have immigrant parents and are living with or without them. Through interviews, the concept of 'coming out' is fleshed out in relation to culture, family, and belonging. Dinaly is also currently working with Planned Parenthood's LGBTQ Youth Initiative Anti-homo/bi/trans phobia campaign, they hope to make films that tell our stories and represent the queer community in an authentic way.
