Swiss Valley Nature Center is now offering a new series for interested adults and seniors. This program will be a presentation on a natural history topic followed by a catered lunch. Januarys program is going to be about tall grass prairie. Cost per addentant is $10. Please preregister at the Swiss Valley Nature Center.
Kristine Nemec manages the integrated roadside vegetation management program at the University of Northern Iowa Tallgrass Prairie Center, providing training and education for Iowa's county roadside programs, and conducting outreach to raise awareness of IRVM. She received a B.S. in Environmental Studies and an M.A. in Biology from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and a Ph.D. in Natural Resource Sciences from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Kristine will talk about why the tallgrass prairie is important and what the University of Northern Iowa Tallgrass Prairie Center is doing to restore tallgrass prairie vegetation for the benefit of society and the environment. She will focus in particular on efforts to restore native prairie plants to county roadsides. She will also provide resources for audience members who want to learn more about how to restore prairie plants to their yards or farms.
