Speaker: Cheptoo Kositany-Buckner, Executive Director of the American Jazz Museum
Cheptoo is a dynamic and visionary leader and was named the Executive Director of the American Jazz Museum in the historic 18th & Vine Jazz District in March 2016 after 25 years with the Kansas City Public Library working in various positions including Deputy Director and leading major organizational initiatives both, at a local and national level.
The 18th & Vine Jazz District is part of the ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ENGINE for the city and downtown specifically through tourism (locally, nationally and internationally), African American businesses, employment of artists, and entertainment. The recent $27 MILLION proposed and now moving forward redevelopment of the District will create a better connection to the Crossroads and downtown through a construction of a new streetscape, lighting and parking improvements from 18th & Vine to Charlotte Street. The plan also calls for STABILIZING AND RENOVATING HISTORIC STRUCTURES for new retail and residential use.
